OCS Expansion Update
Friday, January 10, 2014
Dear Odyssey Families,
We wanted to make sure that our families know that we have secured a lease to use a single building in Barley Mill Plaza, known as Building 20, for the 2014-2015 school year to provide classrooms for our K - 4th grade students.
This is an interim option for us as we continue to determine the best choice for a permanent campus.
Since signing lease for Building 20, we've submitted initial paperwork for a building permit to renovate Building 20 with the New Castle County (NCC) Land Use Department, the Fire Marshal, and the Delaware Department of Transportation to ensure that we fully comply with all regulations.
Notice of our request to NCC for this building permit was posted in the News Journal on Saturday, and there was an article written for Tuesday’s paper. Read the Article
The review of this building permit is the sole responsibility of the NCC Department of Land Use. Permits are not voted on by County Council, they’re approved based on their compliance with the law.
County Councilman Bob Weiner did raise some questions about our permit related to traffic and land use. We asked 35 of our families who live in his district to write to him requesting he be open-minded about our efforts and to help him understand how important Odyssey is to our families and New Castle County. Thanks so much to all the families who sent a note and also to our AHEPA (American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association) supporters who did too!
We’ll share more information about our plans for Building 20 early next month after the review of our permit is reviewed.
Thank you for entrusting your children to us and your continued support,
Odyssey Charter School
