The Ellinomatheia Certification Program
What Is Ellinomatheia?
Ellinomatheia is the official worldwide Greek language proficiency certification developed by the Center for the Greek Language. It is recognized by the Ministry of Education of Greece and by universities and institutions throughout Europe and beyond.
Passing the Ellinomatheia exam at any level earns candidates an official Certificate of Attainment in the Greek Language. At higher levels, this certification opens doors to college credits, the Delaware Certificate of Multiliteracy, and even free university tuition in Greece.
OCS as an Official Testing Site
OCS is one of the few schools in the United States that has been selected and designated to administer the Ellinomatheia exams. Examination Center Code: 10021.
- Exams sit on campus, proctored by OCS faculty in a familiar environment.
- Preparation classes provided at no cost to all OCS families.

Why It Matters
For OCS students and families, Ellinomatheia certification is one of the most powerful outcomes of the Greek language program. Here is what each level of achievement unlocks.
College Credits
Students who attain B1 or B2 certification can apply those credentials toward college credits, reducing the cost and time to degree completion.
The Seal of Biliteracy
Reaching B1 level certification earns students the Seal of Biliteracy, a distinction recognized by colleges and universities across the US as evidence of genuine bilingual proficiency.
Free University Tuition in Greece
Students who pass the B2 exam unlock free tuition at any public university in Greece. A fully accredited four year bachelor's degree at no tuition cost. That is a potential saving of up to $215,000.
The Delaware Certificate of Multiliteracy
Students who attain B1 or higher certification are eligible for the State of Delaware Certificate of Multiliteracy, a state level recognition of bilingual achievement.
A Lifelong Credential
Ellinomatheia certification is recognized worldwide. It follows your child far beyond graduation and demonstrates a level of Greek language mastery that sets them apart.
Test Levels and Eligibility
Ellinomatheia certification is available across seven levels. Each level has specific age requirements and areas of focus.
