Right to Know.

Dear Parent/Guardian:

The Federal Elementary and Secondary Education Act as amended by the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) requires schools to make the professional qualifications of the classroom teachers available to parents and guardians.

This Federal law allows for certain information about classroom teachers to be shared and requires the School to provide this information in a timely manner when asked. Specifically, parents/guardians have the right to ask for the following information about each of their child's classroom teachers.

Information You Can Request

• Whether the teacher has met all Delaware licensing and certification requirements for the grades and subjects he or she teaches.
• Whether the teacher is teaching under an emergency or other provisional certificate because of special circumstances.
• The teacher's undergraduate major, whether the teacher has any advanced degrees and if so, the subject of the degrees.
• Whether any paraprofessional provides services to your child and, if they do, their qualifications.

Odyssey's staffing decisions are made to provide the best qualified person available for each class. In addition, school administration will be evaluating each teacher's performance in the classroom to ensure that your child receives quality instruction.

Teacher Preparation Programs

Recruiting teacher candidates from areas outside of traditional education preparations programs has been a part of the Delaware educational landscape for most of the past decade and is part of Delaware's federally approved Race to the Top plan. Although our school has welcomed teachers from these programs for many years, these regulations require parent/guardian notification.
