6-12 Half-Day Bus Routes

On half days, grades 6-12 dismiss at 11:10 AM with buses departing much earlier than regular school days. Make sure your student knows their afternoon route and arrival time.
Overview

Half-Day Transportation for Grades 6-12

On half-day school schedules, students in grades 6 through 12 are dismissed at 11:10 am from the middle school. Your student rides the same bus number on half days as on regular school days, but arrival and departure times change significantly.

Morning Pickups

Morning pickups operate on the same schedule as regular school days. Your student should still arrive at their bus stop at least ten minutes before the listed pickup time.

Afternoon Dismissal

Afternoon dismissal occurs much earlier on half days. Most buses depart the middle school between 11:10 am and 11:18 am, then proceed to their regular stops.

Independent Boarding

Unlike elementary students, middle and high school students can board independently at their afternoon stops. Afternoon stops typically occur between 11:23 am and 11:50 am.

Finding Your Student's Half-Day Bus Times

Look for your student's regular bus number below. The times shown are specific to half-day schedules. Morning times remain consistent with regular days, but afternoon times are compressed significantly.

Morning arrivals at the middle school occur between 7:10 and 7:18 am on most routes.

Afternoon times vary by route, ranging from early morning (around 11:23 am at the first stop after school) to mid-morning (around 11:50 am at the last stops). Your student should be at their assigned bus stop a few minutes early.

Key Differences on Half Days

Morning pickups are unchanged. Your student should still aim to be at the bus stop ten minutes early.

Afternoon dismissal is the major difference. For example, a bus that normally departs the middle school at 2:25 pm on a full day will depart at 11:10 am on a half day. This means afternoon stops occur much earlier in the day than your student may be accustomed to.

Afternoon stops happen quickly. Students need to know their afternoon bus and stop location and be ready to board as soon as the bus arrives. Make sure they understand the new afternoon times so they don't miss their ride home. Buses run on schedule and cannot wait for students who are late. Your student is responsible for being at their stop on time.

Requesting a Bus or Stop Change

To change your student's bus or pickup location, send a written request to transportation@odyssey.k12.de.us at least 72 hours in advance.

In your request, include your student's full name, grade, and the bus stop where they should be picked up or dropped off.

The transportation team reviews all requests based on available space and will contact you if your preferred stop is full or if they need more information. Changes are approved and confirmed by October 15th each year.

Ready to Track Your Student's Bus?

Use the WhereTheBus app to see exactly where your student's bus is in real time, including estimated arrival and alerts when the bus is approaching their stop. This is especially helpful on half-day schedules when times are different from regular days.

Bus Conduct and Safety Rules

Your student is expected to follow all bus safety and conduct rules on half days, just as on regular days. The bus driver is in charge and has authority similar to a classroom teacher.

Be at the bus stop at least ten minutes before scheduled pickup time.
Keep away from the bus while it is moving.
Board the bus without crowding and sit down immediately.
Treat the driver and other students with respect.
Stay seated while the bus is moving.
Not eat or drink while riding. Not damage or abuse the bus or equipment.
Follow the electronic device policy and obey the driver's instructions about phones and devices.
Bring sports bags and projects that fit on their lap or inside a fully concealing bag.
The Odyssey Charter School Code of Conduct applies on the bus and will be enforced. Violations of bus rules may result in loss of bus privileges.
