Food Service at Odyssey Charter School

OCS provides healthy breakfast and lunch options for students in Kindergarten through Grade 12, along with resources for meal accounts, dietary accommodations, and food service support.

School Meals at OCS.

OCS offers breakfast and lunch service for students in Kindergarten through Grade 12.

Breakfast is served each morning in a grab and go format and is eaten in the classroom. Breakfast meals include a healthy breakfast item, 100% fruit, and milk options. Meals follow National School Breakfast Program nutritional guidelines.

Participation & Opt Out

If you do not want your student purchasing school breakfast or lunch, a written request or email must be submitted to the school office stating that OCS should not provide meals to your child.

  • Unless a written request is on file, students may purchase breakfast or lunch.
  • The food service program remains available to all students throughout the school year.
Payments & Balances

Meal Accounts

Families may add meal funds through Infinite Campus. Prepayments are encouraged and families should monitor account balances regularly to avoid interruptions in service.

Alternative Meals

  • Students with insufficient account balances will still receive breakfast or lunch when requested.
  • Parents or guardians will receive notice that food was provided and that payment is due the following school day.

Returned Checks

Checks returned for insufficient funds or closed accounts must be resolved immediately with the school.

  • Payment must be made by cash or money order within three business days after notice is sent.
  • If multiple checks are returned, check payments may be suspended for up to one year.

Refund Policy

If a student will be absent or leaving school early, notify the office at least 24 hours in advance to cancel meal orders and receive meal credit. No cash refunds are issued. Refunds are processed through the State Treasurer’s Office.

Federal Assistance

Meal Benefits

Each school year families are offered the opportunity to apply for federal meal assistance for free or reduced price meals.

  • Children from families with incomes at or below 130% of the poverty level may qualify for free meals.
  • Children from families with incomes between 130% and 185% of the poverty level may qualify for reduced price meals.
A new meal benefit application must be completed each school year. Families should complete one application per household.

Accommodations

Dietary Needs & Allergies

Families should notify the school office if their student has a special dietary need or food allergy. Lactose free milk may be provided for students with lactose intolerance.

Required Documentation

For food allergies, a doctor’s note detailing the allergy must be provided to the school. The school nurse may also require:

  • A Food Allergy Action Plan (FAAP)
  • Statement for Special Diet Prescription form

Staff Support

Students requiring special dietary accommodations may receive support through collaboration between the school nurse and the meal program coordinator. Families may meet with school staff to discuss accommodations and meal planning for students with severe allergies or medical dietary needs.

To help the food service program operate efficiently and reduce food waste, families are encouraged to notify regarding their intent to participate in school meal programs. Choosing not to participate at one time does not prevent participation later.
